Connovar: (from the old language) n. the order of (conno) - the Nine (var)
The Order of the Nine is a special order composed of the nine monastics sects of The World, established for the express purpose of maintaining Order in the ancient ruins of Shannath. Each is named after its founder, a man or woman who espoused a particular form of rigor for combating Madness in The World. Beyond the walls of Connovar Monastery, each of the sects practices in isolation from the others. It is only in the monastery itself that they have been set the task of cooperation.

In addition to being defined by their focus on Rigor, each sect is further categorized by its focus: abstract, personal and external. The Soraph, Anuthor and Ophoi each have an abstract focus. The Fanthan, Dagforians and Elspin focus their rigors on personal development. The Tarnesh, Neshi and Gennerites focus on how their work affects the world around them.
