Gennerites

And when the King demanded what Genner had been doing in his workshop
for nine days and nights, the Engineer placed the gift at his majesty’s feet.
“It is not enough to understand the principles of order, sire,” he said. “They
must be applied to the world in such a way as to yield intended results. In
this way order is not merely understood, but propagated. “

Overview

The Gennerites (followers of Genner), believe that the greatest good can be achieved not by understanding order or seeking it out, but by actively propagating it in the world. They are the engineers of The World, and they thrive on creating those things which bring about order and predictability in the environment. A bridge allows travel to continue at an orderly pace, a loom allows thread to be woven into orderly patterns at a rapid pace, a compound pulley works at a construction site, helping to move materials to create a new structure. Efficiency is a by-product of their faith, but taming the wild madness of the world, harnessing it to the laws of order, is their passion.

Structure

Gennerites have various fields of specialization. All of those fall withing the the following categories: civil engineering, mechanical engineering and alchemical engineering. They may also vary in how they spend their time: some Gennerites are continually trying to invent new things, while others try to perfect an existing system, and still others implement pre-existing ideas into the environment.

Gennerite politics work in a pyramidal structure. Each of the three schools of engineering elect a dean to lead them. The deans of the three schools elect the prior. Their opinion about politics tend to vary wildly from those who are completely uninterested to those who see it as an opportunity at responsibility and increased control over the environment.

Deans oversee each of the schools of engineering, doling out funding, establishing agendas and dealing with disciplinary action. In addition to the usual hierarchy, Gennerites have a specially elected officer called the Master Architect. It is her job to oversee the maintenance, expansion, and development of the monastery and its surrounding roads, bridges and tunnels.

Special Vow

In addition to the usual vows of obedience and poverty, Gennerites also take a Vow of Upkeep.
